Covid-19: US, Canada and Others Evacuate Citizens From Nigeria

As the case of coronavirus spread rapidly in Nigeria, citizens from other countries living in the country were evacuated to their countries, following the fear of the explosion of the Covid-19 virus in the country any moment soon.

According to Independence news, no fewer than 585 nationals of United States and Canada were on Monday morning and afternoon evacuated from Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

Ethiopian Airline’s Boeing 767, flight ET8201 with the registration number: ET-ALO, evacuated the 200 Canadians from Lagos and Abuja airports.

It was gathered that the aircraft would airlift the Canadians to Addis Ababa en route Toronto.

Also, Egypt and Lebanon had evacuated 177 of their citizens from three airports in Nigeria on Sunday.

Egypt evacuated 37 of its nationals out of the country though the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, while MEA Airlines evacuated 140 Lebanese from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on the same day.

The evacuees, however, went through the security and boarding processes from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the approval of Sen. Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation under ‘essential flight.
