The immediate-past managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, is dead.
This was disclosed early Saturday morning by Mele Kyari, the current GMD of the state-run oil company.
“My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” Kyari wrote.
Baru was born in July 1959 in Misau, Bauchi State. He attended Federal Government College, Jos for his secondary education where he graduated in 1978. He obtained his bachelor of engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University in 1982 and a doctorate in Computer Aided Engineering from the University of Sussex
He was appointed as the 18th Group Managing Director of NNPC, on 4 July 2016.
On reaching the statutory age of 60, he retired on 7 July 2019 and was succeeded by Mele Kyari.
An official cause of death has not yet been announced.
