WTO Accepts Okonjo-Iweala’s Nomination For DG

The nomination of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as one of the candidates for the office of the director-general of World Trade Organisation has been acknowledged by the organisation (WTO).

Nigeria, on 9 June 2020, endorsed Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the post of WTO Director-General to succeed the current Director-General, Mr Roberto Azevêdo, who has announced he will step down on 31 August 2020.

The organisation which announced this via a Twitter post on Tuesday said, “Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chair of the Board of Gavi and Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, has been nominated by Nigeria as a candidate for the post of WTO Director-General.”

The organisatio also added that nominations are still open till July 8, 2020.
